For our 50th Anniversary Season, Reading Phoenix Choir organised a ‘Come and Sing’ event to rehearse and perform the perennially popular Handel’s Messiah at Reading Minster. This popular event is normally scheduled in the summer months, but due to the 50th Gala Concert, it was moved to January.
Despite the Winter gloom, The response to participate was strong and over one hundred singers signed up on the day. Even the Tenors had fifteen singers in their section!
Chris Han expertly directed the large choir through all the chorus sections during the day, with breaks to allow for rest and chat . It was hard work but highly enjoyable for all involved.
Due to the large numbers of singers, the concert seating arrangement was reversed so that the choir sang in the Nave pews and the audience sat in the Chancel
For the evening concert performance we were joined by our wonderful soloists soprano Daisy Brown, tenor Michael Bradley, bass Robert Garland and organist Ben who stepped in last minute.
