On October 29th, the choir released the second track from the new CD which will be available in March 2019.
It is the third piece from Howells’ Requiem – Requiem Aeternam (1).
It’s a beautiful and moving work written in the early 1930s but unpublished until 1980, and is a request for rest and perpetual light for those who have died. The release coincides with both All Souls Day (at which a Requiem would be sung) next Friday 2 November and the upcoming commemoration on 11 of the centenary of the end of the First World War
Requiem Aeternam I – Herbert Howells
Requiem aeternam dona eis,
Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.
[Rest eternal grant them.
And let light perpetual shine on them.
Rest eternal grant them, Lord.]
Words from the introit for the Mass for the Dead from the Roman Missal
The track can be streamed from Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Shazaam and Pandora
