Reading Phoenix Choir win the mixed voice class in Llangollen
It was on a rainy July day at Llangollen in 1972 that the Choir really ‘arrived’ gaining its first major accolade by winning the mixed – voice class and robbing the Bulgarians of their treasured regular prize. Phoenix was the first English choir for 11 years to have gained this honour. “The Silver Swan” was beautifully executed from every point of view. ‘This is how Gibbons should be sung, and we wish he had been here to hear it’ (perhaps he was) were the adjudicators’ comments.
